Freestyle Releasing and Freestyle Digital Media have picked up Philippine horror film “The Road” by helmer/scribe Yam Laranas whose previous pic, “The Echo” (Sigaw) was remade for the U.S. by Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment.
Freestyle Releasing and Freestyle Digital Media will release “The Road” day and date on May 11, marking the first time an all-Filipino pic is released theatrically in mainstream cinemas across the U.S. Theatrical release in key markets will be in conjunction with its release across digital platforms including YouTube, iTunes, Amazon, Netflix and Hulu Plus.

Sound design and music for “The Road” is by Swedish composer Johan Soderqvist, who wrote the score for Swedish vampire pic, “Let the Right One In.”

Told in reverse, “The Road” tracks a 12-year old case that is reopened when three teens vanish while driving on an old, abandoned road.

Mark Borde, co-President of Freestyle Releasing, Susan Jackson, CEO of Freestyle Digital Media, Annette Gozon-Abrogar of producer GMA Films and Laranas, brokered the deal.
