Freestyle Digital Media and Milyoni have set a simultaneous day-and-date theatrical/VOD/Facebook release of Australian actioner “Tomorrow, When the War Began” on Feb. 24.

Freestyle is touting itself as the first company to release a day/date film into theaters, online and in cable VOD while also going live for rent on Facebook. Milyoni is providing its Social Cinema technology in conjunction with the Facebook release.

The Australian film, written and directed by Stuart Beattie, performed well at the Oz box office. It will open in 10 cities in the U.S. — Tempe, Az.; Little Rock, Ak.; Seattle; San Diego; Miami; Honolulu; Westerville, Oh.; Buffalo Grove, Il.; New Haven, Ct. and Louisville, Ky.

“With Facebook’s 800 million users sharing video with friends, there is zero doubt that going forward, quality independent film will thrive through effective market campaigns on Facebook,” said Steve Harnsberger, Freestyle Digital’s exec VP. “Our goal at FDM is to make quality independent film accessible to anyone, anytime, anywhere on all platforms on the same day.”

Pic’s based on the book series from John Marsden and follows the journey of eight high school friends in an Australian coastal town whose lives are suddenly and violently upended by an invasion that no one saw coming. Caitlin Stasey, Rachel Hurd-Wood amd Lincoln Lewis star.

Producers are Andrew Mason and Michael Boughen.
