Freestyle Takes U.S. On ‘Tiger Eyes’

Distributor Sets June 7 For Theatrical, VOD Release
Freestyle Releasing and Freestyle Digital Media have acquired domestic theatrical and VOD rights to the feature adaptation of Judy Blume’s young adult novel “Tiger Eyes.”
Project is a co-production of Amber Entertainment with Mark Ordesky and Ileen Maisel producing and Tashmoo Prods. with George Cooper, Judy Blume and her son Lawrence Blume producing. Linda Moran co-produced and Ruth Pomerance exec produced.
Lawrence Blume directed from a script he co-wrote with his mother. “Tiger Eyes” stars Willa Holland (“Arrow”), Tatanka Means, Amy Jo Johnson, Russell Means, Cynthia Stevenson and Elise Eberle.
Freestyle has set June 7 for the day and date release in multiple markets. “Tiger Eyes,” published in 1981, is the first Blume novel to be adapted for the big screen.
Story centers on a 17 year old girl abruptly relocated by her grieving mother to the “atom bomb” town of Los Alamos, New Mexico, following the sudden death of her father. While exploring the surrounding canyons, she meets a mysterious young Native-American who is able to see past her pain.
The film was shot in 2010 and played at the Sonoma Film Festival last April.
The deal for the U.S. rights was negotiated by Freestyle’s Susan Jackson with Chris Charalambous and George Cooper of Tashmoo Prods.
