Freestyle Releasing, Freestyle Digital Media and Dominion Pictures have acquired theatrical and DVD/VOD rights to Mr Pip, starring Hugh Laurie. Directed by Andrew Adamson (The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian), the drama is based on the novel by Lloyd Jones. Laurie plays the last Englishman remaining in a tropical village in Bougainville, Papau New Guinea, during its 1990s civil war. He begins to teach the local children by reading them Great Expectations, transporting an imaginative young girl (Xzannjah Matsi) into the story of the novel, believing that Dickens’ character Pip is her friend. Her passion for storytelling brings terror to the village when Pip’s identity is misunderstood by the invading army. Ultimately, her courage and imagination must sustain her if she is to survive. The film will debut November 7 in limited theatrical release and on all digital platforms. Previously released in New Zealand and Australia, Mr Pip won New Zealand Film & TV Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress.
